THE WHITE BLOCK MYSTERY
« on: September 17, 2007, 10:14:54 PM »
Just got today my first ever pair of PJs.  Absolutely brill!!!!!!
Been reading up thru posts and everyone talk about the 'white blocks'.

I followed some posts and it seems they go between the spring and the top hoof bolt to spread the bolt edge load onto the spring more evenly.

I don't have any white blocks from new.  What I seem to have is a larger bolt boss with a flat on it facing the spring.

I think this is the latest fix for the White Block saga.

If I'm wrong, and I should have some blocks, could someone please tell me.

Thanx

Don't worry if you don't have it as it looks like you have got one of the earlier gens. We are going through stock fast now and so some people will be getting the earlier versions that are left.

Before you start paniking don't worry they just as good as the current ones or many may say they are actually better than the current ones  :o

Have fun :)

Cheers for the reply :)

If mine is an early gen, and looks like it does, why was it changed? Was an improvement needed?

I'm not overly concerned, as I'm not going to be performing breath taking stunts, but I'm a mechanical designer by trade, so I always admire good engineering.

Cheers  :D

Actually its safer outside. You will have noticed you need to keep moving all the time. If you fall inside ( and there tends to be not much room  and lots of clutter-maaybe thats just my flat) - now you know its going to be onto the edge of the coffee table or a door handle and Not onto the sofa

The most important difference between gen1 and gen2 ( it is alledged). Is that the rubber used in the hooves of gen 2 is softer and wears out alot quicker.  So basically you got a good deal. ( and you have prob given webmastwr a headache cos peeps will order and ask if they can have some of the old stock gen 1's ;D)

Having said that the gen 1's sold for £40 more!!!!!  So u have got a very very good deal ;D

My Gen1 lasted hours ( no tyre boots ).  :(
I ordered a new pair of hoofs and these have a metal plate and then the rubber on them !?
But tyre booties are a must ( not for long  !? )

::) I know its safer outside but I had to try them and it was chucking it down and hailing outside - I couldn't wait.  Yes, door frames do seem lower in PJs :'(.

Seems I may have got a good deal then - Gen 1s sound the biz. Makes me wonder why things get changed if they work well.  And there's that difference where the white block should be (see earlier in post).

Anyway, I'll put some pix in the gallery of my PJs, cus I'm quite proud of them.  I'm trying to making some booties for them out of some old thick conveyor belting I found, similar to the 'Hoofies', but not as neat. If that fails, my mountain bike will loose a tyre ;D

Will also wrap the springs in I think a long wound strip of an inner tube.  Its thick, flexible and stretchy and won't half protect against knocks.  Will post wot it ends up like.

The Gen 2 (so they have come to be known!) introduced the Plastic T-Shape peice for few reasons:

It acts as a shock absorber so that it distributes the "shock" of the bounce evenly on the spring

and also acts as a gap buster so that there's less movement of the spring and thus making them less noisy

Having said that your "silver tube" looks slighty bigger than the one on my projumps which are an earlier gen too. Mine has a black tube insted of a silver one but never had the shock absorbers as well.

here you go pic of mine:

Cheers for that webmaster :)

Yes the silver tube on mine is much bigger than your black tube, as on mine you cannot see the brass bushes.  My silver tube is not ultra tight in the frame but the bolts are. I think I probably have the black tube/spacer inside and the silver tube is to reduce the gap to the spring. The gap is around 1mm.

;D ;DThanx for all the comments :) :)

p.s. I've just posted in the Stilts gallery the wrapping of my springs with an inner tube strip.

I have Gen1's but I have both big tubes and white bricks and the "black one" is a white one under the rubber !?
This show both one that fell out the the other with it in place ?
you can see the back one in the above picture through the spring  :o

Front and back ( I've taped it but you can see them !? )

Now stripped all the bushes out to grease them and photo'ed the large silver boss I have at the top of the hoof 8)

This is all there is at the front of the spring, and the riveted black rubber at the back.

Has anyone else got the same setup ???
