Teach me to Flip?? North West.
« on: December 15, 2009, 06:15:14 PM »
Hi, I'm griff. And i now feel secure enough on my bocks to flip.

However I don't have access to a gym and I want some advice. So if any1 from the north west area, Preferably manchester can flip and would like to teach me that would be gr8!

I hope you can help me out.

Flipping is the next stage for me on my bocks.

Thanks, Griff

Its personal commitment mainly.

If you've never done flips before the best thing I can suggest is to learn them on a trampoline, once you have that sorted you can then think about moving it onto stilts in the gym with several crash mats
If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room!

I agree with Athoul, don't sit here asking for help as you won't get too far, go find a mate with a trampoline and ask to use it, or find a local sports centre that runs trampolining classes. Learn flips there first, so you have a vague idea what you're doing and how you need to tuck to flip and what arm movements you need. It's safer to start out on a trampoline.

Once you've know what you're doing in the air, find a sports centre that will let you hire out a hall for bocking, borrow some crash mats, and go for it. JUMP. UP. TUCK LIKE F***.

It's the way every one else here has learnt :)

It's not the TLF or the trampoline, can do that! I could do combos along the floor a few years ago!!!

It's the swinging 7kg of ali strapped to my feet and the extra half a meter off the deck that scares the sit out of me! :Cwideeyed:

Well then you just have to commit, if you want a laugh have a look at my first front flip attempts, the first couple I did were actually more like rolly polly's to get my confidence up:

Once you have that base of not being scared, it just practising and making sure you've got the right technique.
If a couple of you work at this together it will help you no need, you can all push and motivate each other, and once one person lands it you then have an act to follow.
