WOW these look amazing....
« on: August 12, 2007, 07:36:16 PM »
These have really caught my eye that look like loads of fun. But I'm an old guy (41) and weigh about 86kgs. Would I still be able to have fun on them or should I look elsewhere for my next kick?

Regards to all,
Mountie

You will most certainly be able to use them, there are a few people on here older than you.

On another forum there is a guy in his mid-50's with a knee problem that uses them!
You are never too old to bock :D

I agree, even my dad had a try and he's in his mid-forties (tho he needed 110kg springs, lol) he didnt carry it on, because he's not the type and has too many other expensive hobbies, but you never know until you try

btw - you may want to check out sum of the posts on here for it, such as improvements, and the ones about going up in spring sizes (im 67kg and still bottoming out 90kg springs)

as for fun - there's no better bocking, and if you decide against it we will all be very dissapointed

You guy's don't mess around thanks so much for the help. I'm interest in the PJs but am thinking I might need to get 100kg springs, is this right?
Can you use these off road, like up a dirt by-way or are they strictly for on-road use? Also how often do you need to replace springs and do they break? Sorry for all the questions but I like to know what I'm getting into...

Cheers everyone for showing so much interest in a newbie...

Regards,
Mountie

you can modify them to be used on dirt and such.. on grass your ok.. but anything slippery or even rocky and such would be a no, unless your a bit mad :)

No worries I'll blame it on old age...  I've been reading all night about this hobby it's really looking interesting. So who makes the best PJ? Prices seem to all be about the same...

It all depends on how much money you have to spend and where you live.

Most are made in the same factory in China, Projump offers the cheapest price around. The really expensive ones (couple grand or so), are much better, but I won't recommend getting them at first.

I won't be looking at spending that much but can you tell me what they are called, the couple of grand one, so I can take a quick look at the differences?

Thanks in advance,

They would be Velocity motion stilts from Stilwerks in the USA but you can get Powerskips which use the same spring for £700. You dont really need either until you get really good. Projumps will be fine for you.

Just because they cost more doesn't make you jump higher. It's all about technique, projumps are fine for beginners.

ill let u off steve :o)

Mountie  im a lil older than you so cant see you having any probs. PJ's will do you fine. You can go off road . But remember the size of the hoof --there is not alot of surface area for grip. You can help by fitting 'tyre sox from a real gnarly mountain bike tyre. There is a vid around of some friends hill walking in them. But mainly they are an urban think.
