Sand...

I'm luckey enough to live a stones throw away from a huge beach down here and it would be amazeing to run as fast as I could from one end of it to the other.

There is the obvious possable problem of the feet sinking too far into the sand, but I still want to at least try. However I worry that the sand would damage them in some way. Reckon it would?

I personally don't think sand is a good idea, the large pressure over the small area of the hoof will cause you to sink in the sand more than if you ran normally on it, and sand in the moving parts will not do them any good, if it becomes trapped it could cause the parts to wear down faster than usual.

So no, Sand = Bad

Hi Mike! Perranporth I know it well. Is the 3 legged cat still alive? Prob not  used to hang around the bins by the cafe closet to the surf. Green parrot pub. I wiped out surfing there once and whilst i got back ok  the life guards lost site of me ( surf was a tad big that day), when i got back to the beach  the inshore rescue boat was at the waters edge d'oh hehe.

Yep I know the beach ( could you tell), running along there would be cool. But, and I dunno if it would be a prob, i  justwonder about getting sand in joints un bits and stuff.  Btw i think ( well there is) another bocker not far from u, St ives --on the other site pvt for help if u want it

Haha, I'm afraid I don't know of about the 3 legged cat. But then I don't really go to the Green Parrot   Always surprised how many people I meet on the net have been down here surfing at some point. Ironically, even though I live here I (whisper it) Don't surf. Which is total heresy and goes to show how out of character me getting Bocks is really..

I'm not worryed about the increased pressure on a smaller surface area, thats a bridge to cross later prehaps, but I agree with what you are saying about it getting in the joints, that was my main worry too..

Note that is a reponse to "14.    How long do the rubber feet last?". Nothing about getting it in moving parts.

As bocks are made of aluminium, they do not rust
In the wet it's a bit slippery so more dangerous but other than that it's fine

Some of the moving parts do rust, which I have seen on my PoweriSers.  That said I have been out on them in the wet on many meets.  Seems like we always get some rain turn up at the meets also.

But (as far as I am aware) there are no iron parts, so they can't rust
Aluminium for frame, copper for bushings, I'm assuming screws/nuts/etc are probably steel or similar compound

1)The size of a 'normal' hoof means the you'd sink too deep into anything but hard sand.
2)Sand would get between the joins and just like sandpaper ( I know it's really called GLASSpaper ) will wear them down.
3)There are some steel parts and if wet steel rust.

That said .....
1) I'm working on a new type of hoof boots ( watch this space ).
2) and 3) After you've been on the sand/dusty/gritty surface spring with WD40 would help.

You can walk over softer sand but the fastter you go the harder the sand needs to be.

I disagree with most of you.

Sand is do-able because we've done it. Even the loose stuff but you do sink and it would be awkward to run in but the harder stuff is fine.

was in skegness the other week and walk from the beach front down a hard mud path which oddly turned into a sandy path 
By the time I got to the main pathway my hoofs where sinking a good 2 inches into the sand had to take it slow and steady

Ive bocked on the beach before (Uphill, nr weston) which was hard packed sand. Think perranporth is like that. DO NOT go over any soft sand. Will send you ar$e over titties
The other problem is that sand somehow manages to get into all them little cracks and crannies (on the bocks, not you ) and is a fantastic at wearing down metal. Just speak to some of the kite boarders down that way. We need to change bearings often, just cos the sand turns into an abrasive paste. Not nice
