How easy/hard should it be to compress your springs?
« on: July 23, 2008, 10:59:25 AM »
Hello,

I know there may be no real right or wrong answer here but anyway, What do you think?

I ask because I have had mine a few weeks now, im happy with how im doing, I started getting some jumps in but I did twist my back so I couldnt get back on the PJ's for just over a week.

Ive been playing about in the garden again now (until my house mates arrive then were off to some car parks :p) I can quite happily jump around I can get around 2 foot Id say, but I cant really stay in one spot easily and well , our garden is very small!

Now what im getting too, Its very hard for me to compress the springs I have 70kg's I guess I weight anything between 8.5stone to just over 9 stone(Its odd my weight goes up and down :)) am I really just going for improving the strength in my legs to get some compression? I know the techneic will play a large role of course also.

And Im only really asking as when you look at say Ian's tutorials on Jumping his compression on one foot basically goes to the ground, I just cant see how ill be doing this. I think my friend will be ordering 60kgs so I might try that out also.

Reading though it looks like ive rambled :D

How long did it take you personally to get some good compression out of your springs.

If I am honest i think its because I just have little legs haha

I know I have some spelling errors here please excuse that, Im at work and not have allot of time

Cheers

Its all about your technique and practise.
Some people take a couple days, some take a couple weeks and some take even longer, on a stiffer spring its harder to find the correct technique but once you have found it you will be getting really good height.

It took me a good month or so to get comfortable with two footed jumping, by the sounds of it your doing well if your managing to get 2ft. When you land slam your heels down as hard as you can, keep doing this everytime you land and you should go higher and higher.

Hope this makes sense, lol

Ive found the best way to wear my springs in, was to hold a lampost and bounce, making sure I landed with my weight on my heels, you will get a good high bounce and 'break-in' the springs. Its all to do with time!
It took me 7months to get to running and jumping, because I was a chicken and wouldnt go out in the wet. now I know I can, I am on them all the time!  Even go to the gym on them!

I don't like the idea of falling over ( I'm a big  :censored: ) I'm still rubbish !?
If you get close to the maxium weight for the spring mean you can't bounce as well too !?

I would have said that im roughly the same wieght and have the same wieght springs as you.  2 feet is a good height for just a few weeks.

I would say that the compression depends on your technique combined with your wieght.  I've found that is doesn't compress much at all, but the higher you bounce the more force you will put through them when you land and so, more compression.

I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy it!

Aye choco bean,

I guess so as when I twisted my back I was getting good height, but that was on a slopped down surface.

Ill try and put some videos up at some point. I only really asked because I kept thinking "God, no way" when I see someone put one foot down and seemingly compress the whole spring.

And again like I said my legs there well I can only describe as hahahahahahahah :p

Looking forward to getting better and ill be in the garden again tonight. I will look for a lamp post soon!

Oh and one more thing,

With the slaming your feet down, isnt the idea to not over work it and let the springs do the work? Tho I guess I can tense and straighten my legs throwing my wieght down as I land, I will give it a try in a couple of hours ^^

Also just got to grips with standing up from the ground, thats not easy :p

It's much easier to bottom out a spring if you jump on one foot as all your weight is being put onto one spring and not shared equally between the two.

Hi Luke   and welcome

Just like to add, 1st try and post a vid, 2 foot sounds quite resonable after a couple of weeks, dont look down ( heads r heavy and throws your centre of gravity foreward, head up you go str8 up, higher and under more control --the key to everyting basically).

Where r u and your house m8s?  There maybe some others near you to bock with as well as get tips

Hey Bbmthbloke,

Myself and house mates are in Sudbury.

Actully went down to a car park this eveing got a some more height I think actully and now I do  think the springs are compressing nicely when I come down from a jump. was gonna do some videos  but I forgot my telephone.

I get nackerd out pretty quick but then I have been slacking on exercise for the last month haha so should all be good.

and yeah Bbmthbloke I do allot better when im not looking at the ground and I keep thinking to myself "dont look down" I will get the habbit going im sure.

Well anyway had some good bocking today (I fell right on my arse just once.) And ill be down there again tomorrow.

Thanks for the tips, Ill keep you updated and get the videos as some pointers are always nice.

Cheers!
