Santa's getting you stilts
« on: November 16, 2008, 04:37:09 PM »
Christmas come coming and Santa's getting you a pair of stilts.
First thing to do is check he's left you some safety gear too, Santa's doesn't need wrist guards, knee pads but he's magic so ask for these too.

It maybe cold outside and gets dark early but don't learn to use your stilts inside it's not safe.
If you fall over you may hit a hard table than an your soft sofa and being as tall you may walk into your trimmings.
If you can go out side in the day time this is a much safer idea.

If you can't use your stilts look on the forum for tips and meets than are bound to be start up has the weather gets better.  :)

Don't forget to thank Santa and your mum and dad for your stilts.

Have a look in the mods section too  If you are a begginer it's important to protect your springs by wrapping them up in some kind of tape. If you get something for the job before christmas and do it before you go on them will save quite a lot of damage.

You could also make yourself some tire socks too

Check out the modifications section

 :spudT:

Lol i was gonna do one of these DK. You beat me to it  :nana:

Unfortunately I used every last DIME I had to get myself stilts for christmas (its technically a present from my GF.  She put up $100, I put up the other 250.)

So come christmas time; I will have the stilts but no protection.

I plan to only practice walking; standing; and maybe a slow jog and very basic bouncing...by the time I got all that down my crappy job should have generated me enough cash to afford some safety-gear so I can start jumping and stuff...does that sound like an ok plan?  I know it'd be best to get safety gear before I even get on it for the first time..but should I be ok withouth it for say...a week or 2 if I take it slow and dont try anything dumb? :)

It's would be best to wear safety gear from the momment you put your stilts on, has that is when your most likely to fall over !
Some people wear no pads but even they would say wrist guard are a good idea.
If you can only buy one extra thing wrist guards should be on the top of the list !

These are pictures of what happened when Jason didn't wear wrist guards. Please don't make the same mistake and get wrist guards as soon as you can

Santa is indeed getting me stilts but I'm having trouble finding a good wrist/elbow/knee pad set in black at a reasonable price :(

Any local skate shops should hold some decent stock, if not try some larger sports shops.

Thanks for putting that up Spud it saved me searching for it

Just like to add I was walking at the time I did it so get wristies first don't be a silly old Hector like me  :haha:

I seen to have made a career move of falling on bocks and I can honestly say I have seriously tested the Pit-Dirt elbow and knee guards almost to destruction ( I have managed to split a kneepad but still using it as it still does the job )

I did push the boat out with wristguards and got a pair of Flexmeter multisports (£40 but worth it after a broken wrist wish I'd got them before )

So get your guards first folks you might get away with it but can you still do your job with a broken wrist
